What is a Parish Council?

Parish councils are the first tier of local government and are closest to the community. We play a vital part in representing the interests of our community and are responsible for:

  • Maintaining the rights of way in the parish

  • Managing the provision of various services such as grass cutting and local amenities

  • We work with and represent the interests of our community to Wiltshire Council on matters of Highways, Planning, the environment, etc.

  • Maintaining the parish property

  • Ensuring the parish environment is pleasant and free of litter

  • Listening to residents and working to improve the parish environment

  • Supporting local community projects

  • All Parish Councillors contribute their time and efforts voluntarily and generally live within or within 1 mile of the Parish
  • If you would like to become involved in your local Preshute community, please contact the Clerk, Sophie Roberts (see contact details below)

Our Councillors represent their community to the Parish Council and the management of the Parish to the community.

The Council is apolitical and meets approximately every other month at Manton Village Hall (usually on Monday evenings).   The general public are welcome to attend these meetings. For the next meeting, click on the Council Meetings section on the Home Page.
